New Congolese civil society reacts to deaths in Mahagi central prison

At the end of the day, there was a deadly crisis at the Mahagi central prison in the territory bearing the same name in Ituri province. Eight inmates have died in six months, with the most recent case occurring on Wednesday June 21, 2023. The new Congolese civil society is sounding the alarm.

Its spokesman, Bienvenu Lokojo, spoke to the press yesterday, Sunday June 25, 2023. In particular, he spoke of the multiple challenges faced by prisoners, including food, health care and above all, the fact that the Mahagi Peace Court has only one judge instead of the three needed to form a full bench in this cellule.

Following this bitter observation by the New Congolese Civil Society, a number of recommendations were made to the Congolese government.
