Prophet” Kintu’s case dismissed by Hoima court

Prophet” Denis Kintu of the Empowerment City Church (ECC) in Kyesiiga, Hoima, is now a free man after the Hoima Magistrate’s Court dismissed charges against him and his communications director, Brian Isimbe.

The court presided over by Hoima’s chief magistrate, His Honor Elijah Iradukunda, said all charges against the duo had been dropped due to a lack of litigants.

Mr Kintu was arrested on 17 charges, including human trafficking, one count of sectarianism, two counts of assault and six counts of common assault.

He spent a few days in Kiryateete government prison with Mr Isimbe after their arrest on August 31, 2022.

Their arrest followed a video that went viral on social media platforms showing him whipping his followers amid insults conveying tribal sentiments while in his church at Kyesiiga Cell in the town of Hoima.

Speaking to the press after the court declared his case dismissed, “Prophet” Kintu said the charges were based on baseless hatred and were never correct.

He thanked the people of Bunyoro for loving him and standing by him through thick and thin.

The video showing Kintu whipping worshippers has distressed many people as it has been used as evidence of aggression.

However, Mr. Kintu denies having assaulted anyone.
