In the early afternoon of Monday June 12, more than thirty-eight people were struck by lightning during commercial activities in the Eringeti market when rain fell in this region of North Kivu province.
Civil society commends the efforts of the medical staff at the Eringeti general hospital in caring for these victims.
However, it calls on the authorities to install preventive devices, such as lightning conductors around public places, to avoid such incidents in the future.
Civil society deplores this situation, which is new to Eringeti, stating that it is the very first time that such a situation has arisen in this part of North Kivu province.
