At least nine people were killed by CODECO militia

Codeco militiamen once again massacred seven people and set fire to four houses in a raid signed on Saturday night, Sunday June 11, 2023, in the village of Adrasi, an entity located at least 29 km away in the umoyo groupement in the Djukoth chiefdom, in the Mahagi territory, Ituri province.

According to sources on the spot, the attacks by these militiamen at around 9pm local time first targeted a military position in the area before unloading on the peaceful population. The victims were all women and children.

Since this attack, a general psychosis has gripped the population and a displacement of the population has been observed towards surrounding regions.

This attack by militiamen from the Djugu territory comes despite several attempts at negotiation, which had led to the signing of commitments to cease hostilities.

A situation condemned by the civil society, which is calling for the involvement of the leaders of the Djugu territory.

Patrice ufoyuru, its coordinator, insists on a definitive end to this provocative tragedy.

This is the third successive attack attributed to the Codeco militia since the recent peace agreement signed in Aru at the end of the dialogue between local armed groups, with 2 previous attacks in Djugu, already resulting in the savage killing of a dozen civilians.
