More than a thousand workers, recruited by the Social Fund of the Republic as part of the project to rehabilitate the arteries of the city of Bunia in Ituri province, marched last Saturday 21 May, to demand payment of their bonus of $60 for the 20 days they worked. An emergency meeting held by the two parties on Monday 22 May in Bunia ended without a compromise.
These agents are asking for the involvement of the provincial authorities to restore their rights. They expressed their views during an angry march, ended with a sit-down strike in front of the provincial governor’s office in Bunia.
They are also protesting against the brutal suspension of the activities of the Social Fund of the Republic.
