A truck carrying more than 450 pieces of timber has been impounded by the National Forestry Authority (NFA) in its bid to protect the forest that has witnessed the historical mass degradation in the past three years.
Mr Alex Obonyo, the Manager for Kisindi Sector of the NFA told reporters, that a FUSO truck registration number UBD 532Y was impounded in Nsozi areas coming out of the protected area.
The lorry driver, Mr Peter Isingoma, was freed as investigations continue to ascertain the true owners of the illegally harvested forest product as well as the truck owner.
A source that demanded anonymity told reporters that some Kikuube district councilors have been linked to that illegality.
